Microsoft Office

This class is intended for the person who has had little practice using Microsoft Products, but with basic digital competency. We will use MS Word to create and edit documents containing images, graphs and hyperlinks. We will use Excel to create and edit basic spreadsheets, using it to calculate and organize data. Everyone will create presentations in PowerPoint, learning to animate text and images and incorporate media like video, music and voice recording. Each student will learn how to use skills they learn about effective presentations to deliver one to the class. We will learn to navigate screens between Google and Microsoft Office. We will learn about Office 365, One Drive file sharing and Teams. 

Prerequisites: Completion of Digital Skills for the Workplace or completion of basic computer skills test, CASAS score of 238+

Quickbooks Online

This course uses Quickbooks accounting software in an office environment. Areas covered include setting up an accounting system, accounts receivable and payable, reconciliation, adjusting journal entries, and financial statement generation.

QuickBooks Online Advanced

Designed for students experienced with QuickBooks, this course covers such functions as inventory, payroll, customizing forms and reports, and fiscal end preparation. Students will build upon their QuickBooks knowledge.

Google Suite for the Office

Google Suite for the Office introduces students to Google Apps including but not limited to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Calendar, and Google Meet. It explores the uses of these Apps and their basic functions which will allow the users to increase their productivity and collaboration. Students in this class will learn how to utilize these cloud computing tools to increase productivity, communication and collaboration at school and in the workplace.

Prerequisite: CASAS score of 238+

Please note: the first and last day of this class will be in person at Portland Adult Education.

Career Exploration

The goal of this class is to introduce PAE students to careers in the US. Students will:

  • understand their interests and skills through self-assessments
  • evaluate employment trends and the labor market using technology
  • understand US secondary and post-secondary education
  • examine career paths of interest
  • discuss the job application process
  • apply their knowledge to make a career plan

through presentations from guest speakers, individual and group coaching, and identification of local resources that can continue to assist them in their career development.

Prerequisite: CASAS score of 238+

The deadline to enroll is August 18.

Excel

Excel is a necessary skill to have in the work place. Students will learn how to create, edit and manage spreadsheets. Then, increase your efficiency by learning how to organize, display and calculate your data into useful information using sorts, filter, and charting. Use Excel's most powerful features to analyze data quickly and easily with confidence.

Prerequisites: Completion of Microsoft Office class or permission from instructor, CASAS score of 238+
