Intro to Hand Stitching

Would you like to become more self-reliant, able to hem some jeans or sew a button back on your favorite shirt? In this class, you’ll learn essential stitches and materials that you can take anywhere.You will learn: How to thread a needle, needle and thread sizes and when to use them, the backstitch, running stitch, whipstitch, attaching a button. You will leave with a hand-stitched needle case with all the tools needed to start sewing and reparing your own garments. All materials and tools provided.

Lathe Turning Workshop: Turn a Bowl

Calendar Jun 3, 2025 at 6 pm, runs for 3 weeks
Learn how to turn small (8-10 inch) bowls. You'll start with material preparation and sharpening, and then do some activities to challenge your cutting touch. The core of the workshop is learning to turn bowls using bowl gouges and negative rake scrapers. You'll end with sanding and finishing techniques.

Intermidate Watercolors

In this four-week course, you can take your watercolor basics and shape a painting practice for yourself. Pursue your own themes and subjects under the guidance of a watercolor teacher. You will learn about composition, value and color theory and how to apply these skills to your own paintings. Class is open to those who have already taken either of Factory 3's watercolor classes, or who feel they have foundational skills in watercolor.

Intro to Cyanotype Prints

In this daytime workshop, where we need the sun to develop the print, you will learn to use fabric squares that are pre-treated with cyanotype chemistry to make your own cyanotype patch. After developing your cyanotype in the sun, rinsing and drying it, we will have needles and thread available for you to use to sew your 5” x 5” patch onto a clothing piece or bag of your choice if you wish.

Woodworking Project: Wall Shelf

Learn basic woodworking techniques, with both hand and machine tools, to make a small wall shelf designed to be hung on a French cleat. We’ll cover the design’s joinery and how, with modifications, a standing shelf or cabinet could be made, for decorative or utility use. All materials will be provided.

Intro to Acrylic Painting

You will learn the fundamentals of working with acrylic paint by exploring the classical technique of still life painting. We will cover color theory, perspective, and composition while working from in-studio still life sets. Still life painting is the perfect subject matter for those who are just starting their journey in the acrylic medium, and for those who are looking to further develop their own style of painting.
