Intro to Cyanotype Prints

In this daytime workshop, where we need the sun to develop the print, you will learn to use fabric squares that are pre-treated with cyanotype chemistry to make your own cyanotype patch. After developing your cyanotype in the sun, rinsing and drying it, we will have needles and thread available for you to use to sew your 5” x 5” patch onto a clothing piece or bag of your choice if you wish.
Basket Making: Random Weave Basket

Random weave is a free-form technique for making baskets. In this 4-hour class, you we will use foraged natural materials such as bittersweet vines for the basic framework and cordage from daylily and iris leaves to fill in. Students can also include commercial rattan and recycled or found materials in their basket.
Woodworking Project: Bandsaw Box

Learn basic woodworking techniques and safety skills to make your own bandsaw boxes, which can be made in a variety of sizes, and more importantly, different shapes. They can be anything from eye-catching works of art to inconspicuous portable hidden compartments. Any woodworker, or firewood user, has an unlimited supply of the necessary materials. All materials will be provided.

Lathe Turning Workshop: Spindle Turning

Learn how to turn between centers, focusing on turning spindles from rough stock, and turning coves and beads. These are the skills needed to make furniture parts for chairs, stools, and tables. The exercises will include activities to challenge your cutting touch, sharpen lathe edge tools, and start to explore bowls.

Portraiture for Beginners

We will learn step by step how to draw proportional faces from front, profile and quarter view perspectives. We will discuss the foundations of the human face, explore how to render different emotions, and learn new observational skills that will help you in other avenues of drawing.
Beginner Earring Making

You’ll fashion two pairs of fabulous earrings, first choosing between silver or gold-toned findings, and then selecting a bead that suits your style from our collection. Next, you will be guided through the fundamental skills needed to make these earrings, including link creation, wire shaping, tool use and basic wire wrapping. All tools and supplies are provided. Each student will finish the class with two pairs of earrings that they crafted! Earring cards, gift boxes, jewelry care card, and cleaning cloths are also available for students to take home.
