The goal of this class is to introduce PAE students to careers in the US. Students will:
- understand their interests and skills through self-assessments
- evaluate employment trends and the labor market using technology
- understand US secondary and post-secondary education
- examine career paths of interest
- discuss the job application process
- apply their knowledge to make a career plan
through presentations from guest speakers, individual and group coaching, and identification of local resources that can continue to assist them in their career development.
Prerequisite: CASAS score of 238+
The deadline to enroll is August 18.

Workplace Communication

Learn how to more successfully and effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, and teams in an office environment. Skills covered include listening, oral communication that involves speaking assertively, positively, and clearly, and handling difficult situations in the workplace with conflict resolution skills. Other skills practiced will include customer service communication skills and communication issues in a team-based environment and how to ace an interview.
Please note: the first and last day of this class will be held in person at Portland Adult Education.
Prerequisite: CASAS score of 238+
